RUN/WALK FOR A CHARITY
Be a part of something bigger than yourself when you run or walk your spring events! Running and walking events from the 5K to the Marathon are great accomplishments in themselves, but when you can help raise money for a charity, the rewards are even greater. You don’t have to raise a lot of money to make a difference. I have highlighted a few local and/or local based charities with amounts as low as $250 or $500. They usually offer you a training program, some assistance and race day support. With a larger amount, you often travel to some beautiful destination races. Check them out! I’m going to run for ASLAN this year, but we support all these charities with discounts, training and product assistance.
ASLAN
This Red Bank based charity supports Tri City and Monmouth County youth. I tutor a young lady from Long Branch with this program, but they do much more! They also have well established presence in Haiti…Shore Runners recently sent 200 pairs of shoes down with the latest Aslan group and they are already on Haitian feet! Thank you! Click here for information on running on Team Aslan or for information to get involved.
BOSCO’S BUDDIES
Founded by local runner, George Boscarino, this foundation helps fund research and supports those with Hepatitis C and Liver Diseases. Last year was the inaugural year for Bosco’s Buddies as an official charity with the New York City Marathon. It is a wonderful organization founded with a lot of heart and spirit and doing great things!
TEAM CHALLENGE
A National organization with a local presence brings awareness and helps fund research for crohn’s and colitis. One of our own Shore Runners sits on the board and fundraises every year thousands of dollars as he runs his events.
TEAM WELLNESS
This Eatontown based Wellness Community offers program for those with cancer and their loved ones. They are having their kickoff meeting for this year’s team in Shore Runner on March 24th. Ilene and Brittany team up to give you great support, a lot of laughs and a lot of care.
